CMM Programmer

 

Reports to:                                         Quality Manager

FSLA Status:                                       Non-exempt

Summary:  Determine program requirements based on design and engineering requirements. Ensure that precision machinery is in working condition and properly calibrated. Provide direction to machine operators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Using customer-provided drawings and/or CAD models, determine dimensions and tolerance specifications that will be used for inspection purposes, and then:
    • Create CMM programs for machined parts.
    • Inspect parts on CMM and create inspection reports.
    • Interpret CMM inspection results to determine if product is conforming.
    • Troubleshoot, edit, and improve existing programs to optimize throughput.
    • Document CMM set up configuration for reference by other CMM operators.
    • Communicate with machinists when part features are near or outside of tolerance specification limits.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Due to government/military contract requirements, all applicants must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, and proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Knowledge of or experience with ISO 17025.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and basic math skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior experience working in an ISO9001, TS16949, AS9100, or ISO13485 certified organization.
  • ASQ (American Society for Quality) certification(s).
  • Calypso experience (Preferred) and/or Calypso training provided.
  • CAD drafting.
  • Using handheld and benchtop gages, as well as an optical comparator.
  • Conducting GR&R (Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility) studies.
  • Aerospace, automotive/vehicle, or medical industry PPAP and First Article Inspection.
  • Prior experience in dimensional inspection and CMM Programming.
  • Ability to interpret drawings using GD&T methods.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to consistently follow specific directions.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a formal degree or certificate program in a related field of study preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience required.

Competencies:

Physical Demands: Most of the time is spent in a typical office/lab environment requiring the ability to use a computer and telephone for extended lengths of time.  Occasionally this position will need to stand, reach, bend, lift, stoop and kneel.  Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Work Environment: Most of the time is spent in a typical office/lab environment with moderate noise exposure.  Occasionally this position is required to enter the machine shop production area with loud noise exposure.
